Trial of Kim De Gelder

Not entirely accurate English article on the trial of Kim De Gelder.

This is what all of Belgium's been following for the past week.

This man, this... utter piece of shit, decided four years ago that he wanted to kill people, because apparently he was mad at his parents for some reason.

He originally claimed he heard voices, and his lawyer is still trying to go for an insanity plea, since the matter of his guilt is beyond a doubt. He has no real shame over his actions.

This bastard murdered two children, two babies, and stabbed several more, some of whom ended up needing plastic surgery because of what he did to them. And killed one of the caretakers at the daycare facility. he had a paper in his pocket with the names of other targets, other day care facilities.

He still shows little or no emotions over his actions. And when asked why he did what he did, he claims that he changed his mind while at the day care facility. He claims that he wanted to leave, but people got in his way, so he started stabbing anyone that kept him from leaving

Now I ask you? How can babies get in his way, how could anyone see babies and toddlers as even remotely a form of threat that they 'scared' him?

I wish to say that there's no chance this scumbag would ever be allowed back on the street. Unfortunately the law Lejeune says he can ask for release for good behavior after doing two third of his time in prison. Which means that even if he's given life, he could ask to be let out of prison, probably wearing an anklet, in twenty years or less. (esp. since he's already been in jail for four years while waiting for his trial)

I'm against death penalty, let me say that from the start, but this is one of those cases where I wish they made punishments stricter so that a life sentence really does mean life...
