I'm afraid to say it, but I've been forced to utterly disable anon comments in my journal.

This past week I've had a barrage of anonymous spam on two of my posts, to the point where I was about ready to go burn some jerseys if the word jersey appeared in the subject line of my mailbox again.

I thought that asking for captcha's on anon commenting would be enough to keep out the spammers, but it doesn't seem to help.

I just wish that lj would do something about it.

I think this attack is particularly insidious - it' seems to be humans rather than bots, posting from a system that allows rapid switching of Internet addresses.

Also they tend to target one entry at a time, so I have been closing comments on the entries they target, and of course "deleting as spam" the relevant comments. I've also posted some robst feedback via the websites being advertised.

In the end, LJ needs to convince the Chinese host of the spammers' accounts to cut them off, and I guess that may not happen immediately. I would say that at least LJ's systems are correctly tagging as spam the comments posted on my account.

The problem for me is that they kept attacking a fic post of mine, one on which I still get the occasional comment, so I'm loathe to shut down comments all together. Haven't had another spam since I closed down anon comments, so I'm hoping that'll do it. (and that they won't start using fake lj account like the last group of spammers did)

Sorry to hear that you have been getting the wrong kind of attention. Anon can be dicks.

thing is, these aren't even trolls, just spambots of some kind, I just never understand what people think to get out of it.

Any attention is good attention, maybe. There is something to be said about the more times you see something, the greater the chance you will check it out.

No there isn't. What an extraordinary comment.

well it's what advertisers keep hoping for. With me personally it tends to work the other way around. Even if I like a song, if I have to hear it too often in too short a time, I get annoyed to have to hear it again, with others, they can get forced into liking it if the radio plays it often enough.
